#7 Avoid mistakes when booking a flight

Last but not least, we would like to show you our best tips for finding flights. With these small but crucial clues, you’re guaranteed to find the cheapest flights to Greece and you won’t experience any surprises after booking your flight. You should try to avoid these mistakes:

Hidden fees in the booking process

A few years ago, this approach could only be observed with low-cost airlines such as Ryanair & Co. In the meantime, some airlines also have additional fees and “extra services” in their program. Quickly, the supposed flight bargain is no longer a bargain at all. You should pay attention to this when, booking for flight for your holiday in Greece:

  • Insurances: Airlines also offer travel cancellation, accident, travel health and baggage insurance during the flight booking. Whether you need all this is questionable, so be careful with setting confirmation checkmarks ✓
  • Seats: For flights to Greece, additional fees may be charged for seat reservations. In principle, however, you will be assigned a seat free of charge at the airport counter or during online check-in.
  • Drinks & Food: The flight to Greece takes three hours. When booking a flight, a menu is often suggested. The prices are quite expensive and you should not expect culinary delights. It’s best to take a snack with you on the plane. In Greece there are enough taverns waiting for you 🙂
  • Baggage: For short-haul flights, some airlines only include hand luggage. You should register or book your checked baggage when booking your flight. At the airport counter, an additional baggage check-in can be very expensive. For Greece you generally don’t need so much luggage.
  • Check-in: Before departure, you should always do an online check-in. Airlines such as RyanAir or EasyJet charge a decent surcharge at check-in at the counter! It also saves you a little time at the airport.
Günstige Flüge Griechenland Easyjet
Low-cost airlines like EasyJet like to sell “extras”

Before paying for your flight, you should check how much the current price differs from the original offer. In the last process of booking your flight, you will receive an overview and can remove any additional services that you do not need. Credit card payment fees may also apply.

Checklist what to pack for Greece

The right flight day is decisive

Airfares are subject to a wide variety of fluctuations. The ticket price depends, among other things, on the general demand of the flight connection, the distance of the destination and various taxes at home and abroad. However, you have no influence on the latter factors. The right one Time of the Greece flightis crucial. You should avoid these mistakes:

  • Weekend flights: Avoid Greece flights on weekends and Friday evenings. Saturday and Sunday are the main arrival days for the islands. It is precisely on these days that people start their holidays. The high demand is causing prices to explode.
  • Flights at lunchtime: Greece Flights that depart in the morning and at lunchtime and reach their destination in the early afternoon are very popular. If you are on holiday, you want to travel relaxed and get as much out of your holiday as possible. Everyone wants to arrive at their holiday destination as soon as possible, and airfares are soaring.

💡 Which travel day is cheaper for Greece?Search flights to Greece that depart from Monday to Thursday during the week. These flight connections are usually the cheapest. Flights in the very early hours of the morning and late in the evening are also cheaper!

The day of booking itself and the time of the flight booking also have an influence on the flight price. In the evening and on weekends, user activity on the flight portals is highest. The high search queries cause the airfare to rise slightly. It is also recommended to book here during the week and early in the morning.

Prices for Greece flights at a glance

Flight prices to Greece range from 50 to 250 EUR including luggage, depending on the connection. We have been traveling to Greece for over 10 years and have rarely paid more than 150 EUR per person each way.

You really want to save on your flight to Greece? Then you should have an overview of the flight prices. At the end of December and beginning of January, many people plan their annual vacation. Airlines speculate on early bookings and keep flight prices high. At this time, you will rarely find a bargain! The first “Greece Specials” will not be available until February.

How much does it cost to fly to Greece?

In the low season, you can get a simple Greece flight between 50 and 100 EUR. In the high season, prices climb due to high demand. Nevertheless, you should not pay more than 150 EUR each way for the flight. You can ask yourself these questions before booking your flight to keep the airfare low:

  • Variable travel time: Can you travel to Greece outside the holiday season?

1. Savings tip! In summer and especially during the holidays, the prices for flights and overnight stays rise considerably. The low season is a great time to travel. It offers better hotel prices and cheaper airline tickets.

  • Alternative destination: Can it be an island other than Santorini or Mykonos?

2. Savings tip! Santorini and Mykonos are beautiful islands. However, they are very expensive and not necessarily the most authentic Greek regions. Many destinations in Hellas are waiting for holidaymakers, take a look here: Which island is right for me?

  • Other departure airport: Do you absolutely have to fly out of your hometown airport?

3. Savings tip! You can often save a lot when booking your flight if you fly from another German airport. Why fly from Cologne when Düsseldorf and Frankfurt are not far away?
