#1 How long is the flight to Greece?
Greece is indeed within reach. From Germany, the distance is about 2,000 km to Greece. You can easily take two to three days by car to cover the distance. By direct flight you can reach many Regions of Greece to mainland and islands within a three-hour flight!
Fortunately, every major Greek island has an airport. This will save you stopovers in Athens and the lengthy journey by ferry. The shortest flight to Greece for Germans is from Munich to Corfu. The longest flight to Greece is from Hamburg to Rhodes, which is within 3 hours and 25 minutes.

In total, 27 Greek islands have one airport. Doesn’t sound like that much, does it? Of the 3,000 large and small islands of Greece, less than 150 islands are inhabited. So you can reach at least part of the beautiful island world by plane. The island of Crete even has three airports.

#3 Are there small Greek islands with an airport?
Yes! More than half of the Greek Islands with Airport have only one national airport. With a few exceptions (e.g. Chios, Naxos, Limnos) these are quite small islands.
They are only served from Athens or Thessaloniki airports. Depending on the geographical location, there are fast flights within Greece from one of the two airports to the islands. For those who have to travel via Athens anyway, there is some time for cultural Athens Holidays.
All islands with Airport in the South Aegean are served by flights from Athens Airport Eleftherios Venizelos ATH. The islands of the North Aegean Sea such as Limnos or Lesvos can be reached from Makedonia Airport SKG in Thessaloniki. Even if you have to put up with a stopover in Athens or Thessaloniki, the small islands with airports are still real Greece insider tips. The somewhat cumbersome journey deters many package tourists. On islands such as Kalymnos, Kythira, Chios and Skyros, things are still very pristine.

You can reach Greece from 20 German airports. With the exception of Sylt and Rostock airports, all major German airports offer flights to Greece.
