The capital of Mykonos is called Chora, also Mykonos Town. Of the almost 10,000 inhabitants of the island, a large part of them live in Chora or in the surrounding settlements. The manageable Mykonos town is more like a large village. The Chora is a traffic-free zone and can only be explored on foot.
The popular district is the busiest Little Venice, where crowds of people push their way through the alleys day and night. In order not to miss any highlights and popular photo spots of Chora, it is worth taking a look at the Mykonos City Walking Tour with a professional guide. #6 Who is a Mykonos holiday suitable for?
Lovers of the blue and white Cycladic architecture feel at home in Mykonos right away. Between June and September, however, Mykonos is not a destination for those seeking peace and quiet. After all, the island is a real visitor magnet and attracts people from all over the world. In summer, numerous cruise ships also anchor. Then the Chora is literally bursting at the seams.
For those who are not deterred by the scenario of crowded old town alleys, a Mykonos holiday is worthwhile, especially in connection with a Island hopping in Greece. You should plan at least three nights on the island. In the hinterland, things are much more tranquil. For a family holiday with children, however, we would not recommend Mykonos in the high season.

#7 Do you have experience with a Mykonos holiday?
We visited the island of Mykonos in the spring, long before the first tourists reached the Cycladic island. As Greece lovers, the crowded summer on Mykonos has always deterred us. In the pre-season we got to know a different island, without parties and without crowds.
The Chora of Mykonos inspired us right away. Strolling through the white labyrinth of alleys, you feel like you’re in seventh heaven in Greece. One postcard motif chases the other. And the sunset at the windmills is truly phenomenal.
Maybe it was also because we enjoyed many sights and Mykonos highlights relatively undisturbed. If there is too much hustle and bustle in Mykonos Town, you are drawn to the hinterland – the Ano Mera. The second largest municipality on the island offers tranquillity and gives an idea of what the original Mykonos was once like.

#8 How do I find good and cheap Mykonos hotels?
Despite its manageable size, the island of Mykonos has a high density of accommodation. Even though Mykonos is known as Greek holiday resort of the super-rich there are still affordable hotels. If you don’t necessarily want to stay overnight in Chora, you can also find a Mykonos hotel in July for 100 euros per night (double room), including in Ano Mera.

#9 Do you have any tips for beautiful Mykonos holiday homes?
In recent years, numerous new holiday homes have been built on Mykonos. Unfortunately to the disadvantage of the original island image. The landscape now looks heavily sprawl. The most expensive Mykonos holiday homes are located in the south and west of the island. In the north of Mykonos and in the heartland you will find cheaper holiday homes, bookable via Booking.com*:

#11 Do you have any more travel tips for your Mykonos vacation?
Due to its central location within the Cyclades and the international airport, Mykonos is a great starting point for a Cyclades Island Hopping. In three days you have seen the island highlights. If you have more time, you can sunbathe on the lonely eastern beaches or, depending on your preference, plunge into the party hustle and bustle. On Discover Cars* you can check prices and availability for a rental car:

If you don’t plan your Mykonos vacation in the hot summer, a longer stay is also worthwhile. In spring, it blooms and greens on the otherwise quite barren island. There are plenty of things to do during a one-week stay, such as hiking along the old mule tracks on Mykonos. There is also an organic winery and a brewery to visit.
