It’s the exceptional hospitality of the lovely owners Giannis and Argyro, who ensure a relaxing stay. Rarely have we felt so at home in Greece from the very start. It’s like coming home here, from the first minute.

Old stone houses and ruins define the streetscape. The village of Emporios, with its 20 inhabitants, is in a deep sleep. Only in summer and on public holidays does life return. On the main square there is a pretty blue-and-white church and two taverns with delicious food, “To Balkoni” and “Apyria”.

We are at an altitude of 250 metres on the edge of a volcano. The night sky is full of stars and the rising moon shimmers over the dark Aegean Sea. In the distance we hear the enchanting call of a short-eared owl. Otherwise there is nothing to hear but silence. Welcome to one of the most peaceful places on earth.
Nisyros may be small, but it has some real treasures to offer. The biggest highlight is its walkable volcanic craters. Even from afar you can smell the sulphur rising from the earth’s interior.
