On the volcanic island Nisyros In contrast to the popular neighboring island of Kos, it is rather tranquil. If you stay overnight on Nisyros, you will find peace and relaxation far away from the tourist hustle and bustle. You won’t find large hotel complexes on the island, but numerous traditional accommodations and family-run guesthouses await visitors.
The island has only four places, in each of which you will find accommodation for almost every holiday budget. In this article, we will introduce you to Nisyros Hotels, pretty apartments and beautiful holiday homes on the island:
Mandraki Nisyros: Hotels, Studios, Holiday Homes
With just under 700 inhabitants, Mandraki is the main town of Nisyros. All ferries dock at the offshore harbour. In Mandraki, in addition to many taverns and cafes, there is a pharmacy, several supermarkets, boutiques and tourist shops. This is where most of the accommodation is located, including the only classic Nisyros hotels.
Although Mandraki is traffic-calmed, there is a lot of activity in summer. During the day, many day tourists from Kos make a pilgrimage through the narrow streets. In the evening it is quieter, but some café bars on the waterfront are open until late at night. If you are looking for accommodation in a lively picturesque village, you will find it here.
Amaranti House n’ Art
Tastefully restored stone house in the heart of Mandraki with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and very well equipped kitchen-living room with fireplace. From the roof terrace, which can be reached via a narrow spiral staircase, you can enjoy a fantastic panorama of Mandraki. The idyllic Oxos Tavern and the Potamos Mini Market are within walking distance.
Three Brothers Hotel

Nikia: hotels, studios, holiday homes
The picturesque village of Nikia with its whitewashed houses is located at the southern end of the island at an altitude of 350 m. 50 years ago, several hundred people lived here, today Nikia has just 50 inhabitants. In recent years, several houses have been extensively renovated and now serve as holiday homes.
On the picturesque Porta Nikia village square in the season, two cosy café-taverns provide for the physical well-being, including the Cafe Porta known for its delicious chocolate cake (volcano cake). There are no shopping facilities in the village itself, but well-organized individualists will feel at home in Nikia right away.

From the balcony on the upper floor and from the large terrace you can enjoy a dream view of the surroundings. Emporios: Hotels, Studios, Holiday homes

There are no supermarkets and shops in the village of 20 souls, but you can find them in the village square in the two taverns Apyria and The Balkony delicious Greek home cooking. From April to November, several sailboats anchor daily in the small wind-protected harbor.
Today, the approximately 150 inhabitants live from (sailing) tourism and fishing. Along the waterfront there are four tavernas, two mini supermarkets and a drink shop. How many days on the island of Nisyros?
We recommend a stay of at least three days on Nisyros. If you’re looking for a special destination off the beaten track, then the volcanic island of Nisyros is for you. The small Greek island offers an incomparable mix of nature, culture and relaxation without having to sacrifice tourist comfort.
The highlight of Nisyros is undoubtedly the active volcano with the impressive Stefanos crater. A descent into the crater is an unforgettable experience, considering that there are not many volcanoes in the world where this is possible. As you descend, steam rises from crevices in the earth and bubbles out of holes in the ground below, you feel how close you are to Mother Nature.
There is no shortage of relaxation either: in the island’s thermal springs (including Loutra) you can bathe in warm, mineral-rich water and recharge your batteries. Centuries-old hiking trails lead past terraced fields and untouched nature, exploring the island has something meditative and brings you a bit to yourself.
The hospitality of the locals completes the experience. We have been to Nisyros over 10 times and have made many friends. If you spend three or four days here, you will feel that the island is a special place. Pack your travel bag, suitcase or backpack and let yourself be enchanted by this unique volcanic island!
