How many days on the island of Nisyros?

We recommend a stay of at least three days on Nisyros. If you’re looking for a special destination off the beaten track, then the volcanic island of Nisyros is for you. The small Greek island offers an incomparable mix of nature, culture and relaxation without having to sacrifice tourist comfort.

The highlight of Nisyros is undoubtedly the active volcano with the impressive Stefanos crater. A descent into the crater is an unforgettable experience, considering that there are not many volcanoes in the world where this is possible. As you descend, steam rises from crevices in the earth and bubbles out of holes in the ground below, you feel how close you are to Mother Nature.

There is no shortage of relaxation either: in the island’s thermal springs (including Loutra) you can bathe in warm, mineral-rich water and recharge your batteries. Centuries-old hiking trails lead past terraced fields and untouched nature, exploring the island has something meditative and brings you a bit to yourself.

The hospitality of the locals completes the experience. We have been to Nisyros over 10 times and have made many friends. If you spend three or four days here, you will feel that the island is a special place. Pack your travel bag, suitcase or backpack and let yourself be enchanted by this unique volcanic island!

More travel tips for Nisyros

Although Nisyros is visited by a good 1,000 people every day from May to October, day tourists from Kos, the island is nevertheless spared from mass tourism. At 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. respectively, all excursion boats leave the island. However, Nisyros offers enough places worth seeing that are worth a stay of at least 3-5 days.
