"The travel guide arrived today and I'm really excited about it. I usually print out blog posts and take them with me on vacation because I find standard travel guides too impersonal and not illustrated enough. Your travel guide is really beautifully done. It's clearly structured, has wonderful photos, great fonts, and the content is super helpful. I'm really happy with it and am already looking forward to the print edition of the Cyclades guide, if it ever comes out. Thank you for your efforts and great input. All the best to you and have fun on your next trips 🙂"

"Thank you so much for the travel guide! We bought it at short notice before our vacation in Greece and had a wonderful time on Kos, Kalymnos, Nisyros, and Leros. Despite it being the early season, everything went smoothly and the Greeks were as warm and welcoming as ever 🙂 Thank you both for this great guide!"

FAQ Travel Guide Island Hoping Dodecanese

Important questions and answers about the island hopping guide

Can I go island hopping in Greece with kids?

Island hopping in the Dodecanese is wonderful with children. Allow a little more time per island so that the little ones don't get overwhelmed by the pace of travel and have enough time to explore.

Does the island hopping travel guide also include maps?

For each Dodecanese island, there is a rough overview map showing the individual stops and larger towns. To ensure reliable navigation for your island hopping tour, we have created maps using Google Maps, which you can access via a link or QR code.

Are the most important sights really included in the travel guide?

The island hopping travel guide includes all the major sights of the Dodecanese. These include the Asklepieion of Kos, the Monastery of St. John on Patmos, the Lindos Acropolis, and the old town of Rhodes. In addition to these main attractions, we have also included many other popular places and highlights. We have also included our insider tips and favorite places. This means there are also many excursions far away from the crowds.

Are there any excursions in the Dodecanese described that can be done in bad weather?

Don't worry! If you plan your Dodecanese island hopping trip during the normal season (May to October), we can assure you that there will only be a few rainy days per month. In July and August, there is usually not a single drop of rain. Most of the sights and excursions described in the Dodecanese are outdoors. However, we have a tip for an indoor activity (e.g., a museum) for almost every island.

Do I need a rental car for island hopping?

We have answered this question and many other topics in detail in the island hopping travel guide. A rental car is not always necessary to explore the individual islands. Smaller Dodecanese islands (including Nisyros, Kasos, Patmos, and Lipsi) are particularly well suited for exploring by scooter or quad bike, and some can even be explored by bicycle. On each island, you will find at least one rental station for cars and other vehicles at the harbor.

How much money should I budget for the tours and admission?

For most of the excursions and tours described in our island hopping travel guide, you will not need any additional budget or pay any entrance fees. These are mostly individual explorations. However, a vehicle (car, quad bike, scooter, or bicycle) will sometimes be necessary to undertake the individual excursions. On larger Dodecanese islands such as Kos and Rhodes, public transportation can be used. Bus fares in Greece are inexpensive.

Can I also explore the islands by bus?

The bus network on Kos and Rhodes is well developed and suitable for some excursions. However, the connections are not flexible enough. On all other Dodecanese islands, it is advisable to rent a car, even if it is only for a few days of your vacation.

Do I need any other travel guides for the Dodecanese?

Our travel guide contains lots of information and travel tips for a 14-day trip through Greece. Our guide can even be used for more than one Dodecanese island hopping trip, as it describes one route in the north and one in the south. The individual islands can be combined as you wish. If you want to stay longer on the islands of Kos, Rhodes, and Karpathos, you should buy a travel guide for the respective island, for example from Lonely Planet or take a look at our travel guides for 10 day trips on Kos and Rhodes.

When will the island hopping guide be available as a printed book?

A printed version of our travel guide is available regularly in German language—but only while supplies last. Sign up for our newsletter and we will inform you about the delivery date. Alternatively, our e-book is available for immediate download at any time. It can be read as a PDF file on almost all devices.
