Frequently asked questions about Rhodes
Here are the questions we get asked most often — answered briefly and clearly.
Late April to early June and mid-September to late October are our clear favourites. The weather is warm and pleasant, the sea reaches swimming temperature by June and the island is far less crowded than in high summer. Rhodes is one of the warmest regions in Greece — from mid-May onwards it can feel properly summery. If you want to avoid the heat and the crowds, the shoulder seasons are the way to go.
Yes, absolutely. Rhodes is one of the largest Greek islands at over 1,400 km² and the most beautiful spots are spread far apart. From Rhodes Town to Prasonisi in the south is 90 kilometres — not something you want to tackle by bus. With your own car you can really explore the authentic island interior, the quiet beaches in the south and the villages in the west and centre.
At the top of our list are the medieval old town of Rhodes Town with the Palace of the Grand Master, Lindos with its Acropolis above St Paul's Bay, and the Tsambika Monastery above the beach. For nature lovers, a drive into the green south is a must: Prasonisi, Monolithos and beautiful villages like Lachania far off the tourist trail show Rhodes at its very best.
Absolutely. Symi is just a one-hour boat ride from Rhodes and with its colourful mansions and picturesque harbour bay it's a complete contrast to its larger neighbour. If you have the time, an overnight stay is even better — once the day trippers have gone, you get the island almost to yourself. A completely different experience.
Seven to ten days is enough to see the main highlights comfortably. Rhodes is large enough to fill two weeks easily — especially if you're planning day trips to Symi or Chalki and want to enjoy the laid-back island life in the south. With only five days, focus on Rhodes Town, Lindos and a beach day on the east coast.
Yes, very much so. Rhodes has shallow sandy beaches along the east coast that are ideal for young children. Add highlights like the Seven Springs, the Acropolis of Lindos and the medieval old town — all places that fascinate children too.
