From the island’s capital in the north to the fishing village of Plimmyri in the south, hundreds of Rhodes Restaurants and cafés invite you to linger. If you want to get to know the typical island cuisine, you have to go to the hinterland, where tasty home cooking is still served in rustic taverns, which you miss in many a restaurant on the coast.
“Rhodes is one of the top 5 Greek islands – the range of gastronomic facilities of all kinds is correspondingly large.”
Unfortunately, there are also restaurants in Rhodes that turn out to be tourist traps. Where there is no classic menu, it is best to always ask for the price per dish so as not to experience a nasty surprise in the bill. We recommend taking a look at Google reviews, especially in Rhodes Town.
Here you will find our personal recommendations for restaurants, trendy cafés and bars, but also for traditional Taverns in Rhodes. We tested all the restaurants ourselves, were convinced of the food and service and would like to share our positive experiences with you below:
Restaurants in Rhodes Town
Koozina, Rhodes Old Town
Hidden restaurant with a charming courtyard not far from the Grand Master’s Palace of Rhodes. Anna and her son Pedros enchant their guests with creative dishes (focus: fish and seafood) and special flavours. On a small balcony with a view of the old town, a table is ready for a candlelight dinner.
Panera Creative Mediterranean Cuisine, Rhodes Old Town
Fine restaurant away from the crowds near the Ibrahim Pasha Mosque with an extensive menu and original dishes from Greece and the Mediterranean. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the dishes and for us personally, Panera is one of the best Rhodes restaurants.
Greek menu: If you are wondering what traditional dishes there are on the island of Rhodes and what the so-called meze or mezedes are all about, then take a look at our article: Typical Greek cuisine
Ta Kardasia, Rhodes Old Town
Somewhat hidden tavern with a very nice roof terrace in the heart of the old town. The friendly landlady Vicky and her team serve typical Greek cuisine and Rhodian draft beer at fair prices. We have been here several times and found the zucchini balls and the feta with sesame and honey particularly delicious.
Taqueria Muchachos, Rhodes New Town
Mexican restaurant in the New Town that is popular with locals. If you’ve had enough of Greek food, you’ll find a welcome change here. In addition to typical local dishes, there are also original new creations and great cocktails. Open from 6 p.m., closed on Sundays!

Tokyo Yaki, Rhodes New Town
Located right next to the western old town, this Japanese restaurant has a very stylish interior and a quiet outdoor area (traffic-calmed zone). Very tasty Asian food at acceptable prices, friendly staff and good cocktails (from 10 EUR).
Restaurants & cafes between Kallithea and Archangelos
Amethystos Gastronomy Meze Bar, Archangelos
In the middle of the lively village of Archangelos, Angelos and his team serve extremely delicious Greek tapas (meze) at fair prices. You choose a handful of dishes and let yourself be surprised. The most visited gastronomic establishment in Rhodes by us personally! The only downer is the parking situation.
Kounna Beach & Resto Bar, Faliraki
Hip boho bar just a few meters above the famous Anthony Quinn Bay. Very friendly staff, varied menu, delicious coffee and wide selection of alcoholic beverages. The magnificent view of the bay compensates for the slightly higher prices.
Sundalia on the Beach, Afantou
Very original designed café & meze bar just behind Afantou beach. Popular with locals, shady seating under mulberry trees and quiet location. In addition to delicious pancakes, various salads and small dishes, the homemade pizzas from landlord Giannis and his team are highly recommended!
To Kyma, Stegna
Directly on the beach of Stegna, a quaint Rhodes Resort, this beach restaurant is located under palm trees with a large menu and friendly staff, some of whom even speak German. Chairs and tables are in the sand, so that a holiday mood immediately arises. Beach loungers can be rented for EUR 15 per couple.

Rhodes restaurants & cafes in the hinterland
Mageirotechneio Taverna Paraga, Apollona
Welcoming village tavern at the entrance of the mountain village of Apollona. Giannis and his team specialize in typical dishes from Rhodes, the ingredients come mostly from the island, the bread is baked in-house. The menu is manageable, but all the dishes we tried were delicious.

Takis Taverna Platanos, Laerma
Family tavern under the eponymous large plane tree directly opposite the village church of Laerma. The friendly landlord Takis (speaking German) serves hearty Greek cuisine with regional ingredients at fair prices. Changing daily specials, particularly atmospheric evening with live music on Saturdays, closed on Mondays.
Taverna Fountoukli, Profitis Ilias (Eleousa)
Atmospheric forest restaurant below the Profitis Ilias. Popular place for locals, as it is away from the hustle and bustle and in the middle of nature. Tasty island cuisine in a hut atmosphere, menu only in Greek. Open from September to May on weekends and holidays.
To limeri tou listi, Profilia
Hidden in the hinterland lies this quaint place. For the delicious cuisine of landlord Savvas, the Greeks even come from Rhodes Town to the tiny village of Profilia. In 2023, the tavern was awarded as one of the best restaurants in Greece. Great atmosphere under a large rubber tree next to a medieval church (15th century)

Colony San Marco Café, Ag. Pavlos
Charming café in the far south of Rhodes. The former monastery building from the Italian colonial era (early 20th century) invites you to linger. Host Dimitrios serves homemade cakes, good coffee, fresh fruit juices, as well as ice cream and small snacks. Next door, you can buy local products in the small shop.
Mojito Beach Bar, Gennadi
