If you’re looking for quieter spots, it’s worth visiting the beaches of Rhodes in the south. If you’re willing to make the 80 km trip from the island’s capital all the way down, you’ll find secluded coves here where you can swim undisturbed on Rhodes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Rhodes Beaches in the North<\/h2>\n

#1 Elli Beach<\/h3>\n

The most popular town beach in Rhodes Town<\/strong> attracts countless visitors every day with numerous beach bars and water sports on offer, all around the northern cape. Right on the sea are several top hotels, such as the Bellevue On The Beach Suites<\/em> (View on Booking.com*<\/a>) or the Rhodos Horizon City. Due to its northern exposure, however, a fair amount of debris often collects on Elli Beach, and when ferry traffic is heavy, the beach is hardly worth recommending.<\/p>\n

#2 Oasis Beach<\/h3>\n

Since the beach bar was torn down in August 2026, Oasis Beach has become a peaceful spot again<\/strong>. The actual beach is quite narrow, but the flat rocks by the sea are perfect for sunbathing. A wonderful backdrop opens up behind it, and snorkeling fans will get their money’s worth here. A good alternative nearby is Kallithea Beach at the Kallithea Springs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Akti Kanari Beach is a wide stretch of beach west of Rhodes Town<\/a> near the resort of Ixia. Thanks to its length, it’s perfect for a stroll. Here, the wild sea crashes onto a grey sandy-pebble beach that’s well suited for sunbathing. On calm, windless days with a quiet sea, you can enjoy relaxing hours by the water.<\/p>\n

#4 Anthony Quinn Bay<\/h3>\n

In the dreamlike bay, the turquoise blue sea glitters and invites you to take a plunge into the refreshing water. Sun umbrellas and loungers are available on the pebble beach for a fee. In summer, this popular Rhodes beach<\/strong> is often crowded, as excursion boats also stop in the bay.<\/p>\n

The bay owes its name to the American actor Anthony Quinn, who shot part of the film “The Guns of Navarone” here in 1961. Out of gratitude, the government of the time named this beautiful bay on Rhodes after him. An alternative to Anthony Quinn Beach is Ladiko Beach<\/strong>, which is very inviting in the low season.<\/p>\n

#5 Afandou Beach<\/h3>\n

The kilometre-long grey pebble\/sandy beach in the east of Rhodes turns into Afandou Beach<\/strong> heading south from Traganou Beach.<\/p>\n

Since no large hotel complexes have set up here yet, it remains pleasantly quiet even in high season. So you’ll find plenty of spots where you can swim undisturbed.<\/p>\n

In the northern section, at Traganou Beach<\/strong>, there are sea caves you can explore. The sea is very clear at both sections of the beach. The seabed drops off fairly quickly and deeply, so it’s only partially suitable for families with children. The ground is also quite rocky in the water, so water shoes are a good idea.<\/p>\n

At the beach bar Sundalia on the Beach<\/em>, it’s especially nice to unwind with a cool Freddo Espresso or a cocktail. The ambience is very tasteful and it makes quite an impression as a beach bar and bistro. We especially remember the homemade pizzas fondly.<\/p>\n

#6 Stegna Beach<\/h3>\n

Stegna is a popular seaside resort on Rhodes<\/strong> with a long sandy beach divided into several sections. The section along the promenade is ideal for families with children, as it slopes gently into the clear sea. The northern part of Stegna Beach is unmanaged and a place to meditate.<\/p>\n

Along the beach promenade, there are numerous taverns and caf\u00e9s that rent out loungers and sun umbrellas. There are also plenty of natural, undeveloped sections. For us, Stegna Beach<\/strong> is one of the most beautiful places on the island to unwind.<\/p>\n

South of Stegna is Grand Blue Beach<\/strong>. A dreamlike bay with turquoise blue water and sea caves to snorkel in. Even the descent down the many steps to the pebble beach is a highlight in itself. There’s a beach bar on site that rents out loungers and sun umbrellas. Entry into the sea is shallow, though water shoes are recommended due to some rocks in the water.<\/p>\n

If Stegna is too boring for you and you’d rather party hard, are you into banana boats, water skiing and stand-up paddling? Then you should definitely visit Tsambika Beach<\/strong>, just 7 km to the north, which offers plenty of water fun. For us, though, it was a bit too much: it was noisy, crowded and somehow not very relaxing. Perhaps prefer Tsambika Beach more?<\/p>\n

#7 Red Sand Beaches<\/h3>\n

Between Stegna and Charaki lie several secluded coves with reddish sandy-pebble beaches. From Archangelos, a rough dirt track leads to one of the red beaches (Cape Archangelos Beach). The actual Red Sand Beach<\/strong> can only be reached by boat.<\/p>\n

Above Cape Archangelos Beach<\/strong> there’s an unpaved parking area. From here, it’s just a short walk to two natural, undeveloped coves. Even in high season, there’s little going on here, and you can refresh yourself wonderfully in the clear sea water.<\/p>\n

#8 Agathi Beach<\/h3>\n

A dreamlike golden sandy beach and shallow, crystal-clear water make Agathi Beach an ideal swimming spot on Rhodes for families<\/strong> with children. In high season, however, it gets very crowded and is completely packed with expensive sun umbrellas and loungers.<\/p>\n

At the northern end of Agathi Beach<\/strong>, near the picturesque cave church, there’s a natural, undeveloped section where you can spread out your towel under tamarisk trees. We especially recommend a visit in the low season.<\/p>\n
