Zeus, the father of the gods, already made a name for himself on the largest island of the Cyclades<\/strong> and spent a large part of his youth on Naxos. Whether it was because of the dream beaches or the culinary offerings probably remains his secret.<\/p>\n

Behind the barren hills of the enchanting Chora of Naxos<\/strong> hides a green variety of plateaus with olive groves and fertile valleys, interrupted by the mountain massif of Zas.<\/p>\n

On a hike through the lush nature of Naxos Island<\/strong> you will come across historical treasures in many places, such as ancient ruins, Byzantine chapels and Venetian residential towers. And that’s exactly what makes the island of Naxos so magical.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in the south-west of the island is the beach paradise of the Cyclades<\/strong>. Golden sandy beaches with turquoise blue sea give rise to a Caribbean feeling and make Naxos the perfect destination for beach vacationers.<\/p>\n

#1 Stroll through Naxos Chora<\/h2>\n

Naxos Town, also Chora<\/strong> is for us one of the most beautiful cities on the Cyclades. Take at least one day to discover the picturesque old town with its medieval alleys and the Venetian Kastro.<\/p>\n

The capital of Naxos<\/strong> with its 7,000 inhabitants is a prime example of Cycladic architecture and a photogenic gem. It’s fun to drift through the narrow streets and always pass beautiful corners that are suitable for great holiday photos.<\/p>\n

South of the waterfront there is a large free parking lot where you can park your vehicle. From here we head north past the Naxos Bakery <\/strong>where you can stock up on delicious Greek snacks.<\/p>\n

The port of Naxos Chora<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

You can get a first impression of Naxos Town on a walk along the Naxos waterfront<\/strong>. Numerous taverns and caf\u00e9s invite you to linger here. Behind it, the sea of white houses stretches up a hill to the Kastro, the oldest district of Chora.<\/p>\n

At the northern end of the promenade are the ticket office of the Naxos Bus Company (KTEL), the bustling main port and the Portara as the island’s landmark.<\/p>\n

Head to the Kitron shop Promponas in the maze of alleys of the old town. On the left hand side it goes into the Old Market Street<\/strong>, the main mile of the old town with many pretty shops, boutiques and souvenir shops.<\/p>\n
