For the 120 km from Kalamata to Cape Tenaro you need at least 2.5 hours. For a circumnavigation of the middle Peloponnese finger from Kardamili to Gythio (240 km), five hours of pure driving time should be planned.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Kardamili\">#1 Outer Mani (Exo Mani): Kardamili and Stoupa<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On a <a href=\"https:\/\/greece-moments.com\/en\/peloponnese-trip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peloponnese Tour<\/a> the Mani forms the middle finger of the peninsula. You can still see the church of Agios Spyridon from Byzantine times and the Mourtzinos Tower, which offers a foretaste of the Inner Mani. A special highlight is the beautiful sandy beach, which is directly adjacent to the waterfront promenade. The finest sand and turquoise blue shallow sea attract countless holidaymakers every year. On Kalogria beach, cool fresh water flows from the mountains into the sea.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The two towns of Kardamili and Stoupa in the Exo Mani are very lively and offer an almost perfect tourist infrastructure. This makes them one of the <strong>most popular holiday resorts<\/strong> the Mani. In the low season, it is still pleasantly quiet and you can enjoy a coffee in one of the many caf\u00e9s overlooking the sea.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With the next few kilometers to the south, the landscape changes, because now we enter a completely different world with the Inner Mani. For example, the <strong>barren and vegetation-free southern part<\/strong> on the middle finger of the Peloponnese. The tourist season does not start until mid-June and ends at the beginning of September. The <strong>Messa Mani<\/strong> (Greek for inside) is one of the few areas of Greece that were never occupied by the Ottoman Empire. Presumably, the region was simply not livable enough for the occupiers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As a visitor, you probably have to warm up to the Innere Mani first. Greece connoisseurs will find a region with <strong>mysterious charm<\/strong>. With the exception of the coastal towns and Areopoli, many places are hardly developed for tourism. Here they have adapted quite well to tourism. The village was built on a mountain plateau above the coast and looks like a fortification from a distance. Especially for Greeks from Kalamata, Areopoli is a popular weekend destination.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The medieval town centre inspires with narrow cobbled streets and traditional stone houses. Many of the former fortified towers have been extensively converted into holiday accommodation in recent years. Between the <strong>Plateia of March 17<\/strong> and the <em>Plate\u00eda Kapet\u00e1n Matap\u00e1<\/em>some restaurants and bars have settled.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Only 5 km from Areopoli is Limeni, the former loading port of the town. The hamlet is a typical postcard motif of the Mani. <strong>Limeni<\/strong> with its restored buildings, the cozy fish restaurants and the turquoise blue sparkling sea. In the <strong>Dripstone Cave Vlychada Diros<\/strong> (Sp\u00edlaia Diro\u00fa) is a seemingly endless network of several caves, most of which are flooded with water due to their proximity to the sea.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The cave labyrinth has been extensively explored since 1949 and expeditions still take place today. Again and again you come across new tunnels and even archaeological finds, including from the Neolithic Age. With a currently known length of 15.4 km, the Diros Cave is considered to be <strong>longest cave system in Greece<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The eponymous Vlychada Main Cave and its <strong>mysterious fairytale world<\/strong> can be explored by boat trip and on foot (tickets from 7 \u20ac). Stalactites and stalagmites are staged in colour and were given striking names due to their silhouette. The backdrop of this lost place is unique; from a distance, the place looks like a fortress. From the terrace you can enjoy the wonderful view of Vathia with a coffee or a cool drink.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you feel a little seasick after visiting the lonely mountain village, you should go to the pretty <strong>coastal village of Gerolimenas<\/strong>. The place has the typical Mani architecture; several solid restaurants and bars invite you to stop for a bite to eat. The region is considered the southernmost point of the Greek mainland and, along with Gibraltar, is even one of the <strong>southernmost points in Europe<\/strong>.
