Naxos beaches in the west<\/h2>\n

In the west there are many good bathing opportunities, but around Naxos Town (Chora) they are very limited. The Grotta Beach<\/strong> not far from the Portara of Naxos is at best suitable for sunbathing, large pebbles make it difficult to get in, there are also high waves and a lot of flotsam is washed ashore. When there is no wind, however, you can snorkel well here.<\/p>\n

On the Agios Georgios Beach<\/strong>, about 500 m south of the city, it looks better, here you can swim well. However, it is a typical city beach, in the background stretches the sea of houses of the new town of Naxos-Chora and numerous parasol rental companies have paved over the beach. The local Restaurant Nissaki<\/em> is one of the best on the island.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, it is much more relaxed on the 2 km south Laguna Beach<\/strong> to. As the name suggests, a reef forms a lagoon landscape here, the entrance to the sea is shallow and the fine grey sandy beach invites you to take a walk. There is no operator and the wind sometimes blows very strong here, which windsurfers appreciate.<\/p>\n

There are also still bathing areas north of the capital, but almost all of them are unmanaged. Due to their orientation, they are exposed to the strong north winds (Meltemi), which leads to high waves. If you don’t mind that, the sandy beach Amitis Beach and the pebble beaches near Mikra, Kampos and Avraam<\/strong> recommended.<\/p>\n

#1 Agios Prokopios Beach<\/h3>\n

Agios Prokopios Beach<\/strong> is located about 6 km (about 12 minutes by car) south of Chora and is one of the most popular beaches of Naxos. Although there are numerous hotels and apartment complexes around the bay, the beach is never crowded due to its vastness. Takes care of the sweet tooth Mr. Donut<\/em>, who sells delicious doughnuts on the beach.<\/p>\n

A good dozen bars and beach restaurants provide for the physical well-being and also rent out inexpensive deck chairs (from 15 \u20ac p.p.). The northwestern section is quietest near the eponymous chapel of Agios Prokopios. Behind the beach are three large salt lakes, which shimmer pink at times.<\/p>\n
