The 2,033 m high mountain on the eastern finger of Halkidiki is visible from many places and its power can be felt by every visitor. For more than 1,000 years, Athos has been home to the autonomous Monastic Republic of Greece<\/strong>, in whose monasteries fabulous treasures are guarded and which is only accessible to adult men.<\/p>\n
